I posted these last month in my etsy shop back in April, but here is a little write up about them. So I came across this beautiful (and pricey) set of metallic ‘color shifting’ watercolor paints. The colors are extremely vibrant and look stunning in all sorts of different lighting. Some of the colors that shift change more than others, and some actually shift through 3 colors (ex. orange, pink, blue). It’s really quite breathtaking if you love sparkly things. I decided to make a set if mini paintings using these vintage style frames. Some of the paintings are more acrylic, others are more of the shimmer watercolors. If you follow me on instagram, you probably saw some videos featuring them. If not, I can show you below through photos 🙂
So here is me doing my first practice one on black hotpress paper. And I DID NOT paint a base color. This is the watercolors doing directly onto the black paper.

As you can see below, it’s pretty pigmented. So the photo below also shows you a little bit of the color shift I was talking about. All the flower petals were painted the same color. You can see purples, pinks, and orange in this angled pic. Same with the vines and same with the individual leaves – painted all the same, yet you can see the shift. Pretty neat right?

Lastly, here are the 9 mini paintings all together. (each sold separately). Hard to really capture their individual shine in this pic, but each one has it’s own magic and could be seen in the individual videos I posted on the listings on etsy 🙂

If anyone is interested in trying this type of painting out, I got my paint from IUILE. They have a stand alone site, but I ordered through etsy. And no, this is not a paid advertisement or review. I just really enjoyed discovering this fun set. Be warned – it is a little pricy, but so far the colors you get seem to go a long way. Happy painting! -Cindy
